International Knowledge Exchange & Sustainable Events – VIECON, part of Wien Holding, impresses with a diverse event program
Between September and December, nearly 20 national and international congresses, trade fairs, and business events will take place at the city’s most flexible event center – including the EASD (European Association for the Study of Diabetes e.V.), Bio Europe, and Buch Wien. The focus is on fostering education and research, facilitating societal knowledge exchange, and strengthening Vienna’s position as an international meeting destination.
“Embedded within the Wien Holding Group, VIECON plays a key role in Vienna’s international positioning as a leading congress and business hub. Thanks to this structure, the City of Vienna can strategically leverage its potential in the global market for congresses, trade fairs, and corporate events, further develop it, and secure it sustainably. This not only enhances Vienna’s visibility as an attractive destination but also strengthens its role as a reliable partner for international business and congress activities,” says City Councillor for Finance Barbara Novak.
“With the program for the second half of the year, we are sending a strong signal about Vienna’s appeal as a congress, innovation, and tourism destination. The range of events and their international reach underline just how important VIECON is for the economic development of our city,” explains Oliver Stribl, Managing Director of Wien Holding.
Diverse Themes and Green Events
From arts and science congresses to career and education events, the second half of the year offers an impressive thematic variety. Thousands of industry professionals from around the world are expected at VIECON. Notable highlights include BIO Europe, one of the largest partnering conferences for biotechnology, and the ECR Day, a high-profile industry event in the consumer goods sector. Both events will take place in November and make use of the Green Meeting certification offered by VIECON.
“We see ourselves not only as a venue, but as an active part of an urban network that connects innovation, knowledge, and sustainability. With international formats and Green Meeting certifications, we are already well positioned and are continuously working to expand our sustainability measures,” says Katharina Weishaupt, Managing Director of VIECON.
A Diverse Event Portfolio Through Year-End
The program continues to showcase its diversity throughout the rest of the year – from medical congresses to the VIECC Vienna Comic Con. Currently, the EASD Congress is bringing diabetes research experts to Vienna, followed by the EUSEM Emergency Medicine Conference, which will focus on the latest developments in emergency medicine. October will highlight technology, careers, and finance with the Meteorological Technology World Expo, Career Calling – Austria’s career event for students and graduates – and the GEWINN Fair. The autumn season concludes with the Korean Brand Expo, showcasing innovations from the booming K-Brand market (Korean products).
In November, the literary scene will gather at Buch Wien, while the Austrian Chamber of Pharmacists will focus on acute and chronic respiratory and lung diseases at the APOkongress. At the education fair Interpädagogica, everything revolves around teaching and learning for educators, while the VIECC Vienna Comic Con once again promises to be a highlight for many cosplayers and gamers as a pop culture and gaming event. Both events are organized under license by Austrian Exhibition Experts, whose expertise and licensing partnerships bring international stars such as Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) and Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things) to Vienna.
Festivities and Heart Specialists in Advent Season
The pre-Christmas season kicks off on November 20 with the Alm Advent Event Village in front of VIECON Center at Entrance A. Mid-month, the EACVI Congress will once again bring international cardiology expertise to Vienna, marking the conclusion of VIECON’s 2025 event calendar.
A Meeting Place and Platform for Future Topics
In addition to industry and professional events, VIECON will remain a vibrant place for encounters and dialogue in 2025. The events not only reflect the relevance of global issues – from health and education to digitalization – but also enhance Vienna’s visibility as a modern, open-minded city. At the same time, VIECON remains an important driver of value creation in Vienna, contributing 350,000 overnight stays to the city’s tourism this year thanks to international events.
“The combination of internationality, thematic breadth, and social relevance makes VIECON a unique platform for exchange and shaping the future. We are proud to realize events with strong partners that make an impact – in Vienna and beyond,” concludes Martina Candillo, Managing Director of VIECON.
